About
Keesoon Namkung is a violin teacher based in the greater Seattle area. She has over 40 years of teaching experience, beginning in 1976 during her undergraduate program at the Talent Education Program in Wheaton College. Ms. Namkung moved to Seattle while studying as a graduate student at the University of Washington, and continued to teach in the area for close to two decades. She also spent five years on the faculty of the Music Conservatory of Westchester in New York as well as a faculty member at the Master School in Dobbs Ferry. She now teaches private lessons in the greater Seattle area.
Ms. Namkung’s teaching philosophy is to help her students ultimately become complete human beings - training with discipline, concentration and focus. The skills developed with learning an instrument (memorization, resilience, accepting failure) extend to many other aspects of life.
Ms. Namkung’s teaching methodology leans towards traditional methods, especially for advanced or older students. Younger students (starting at age 4) are first given lessons under the Suzuki concept, and are subsequently taught how to read music. All students learn theory and other necessary background to enrich their experience.
Former students of Ms. Namkung‘s have studied at the Juilliard School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, Cleveland University, Indiana University, Eastman College and other liberal arts colleges.
